Anyone who has been following Rome’s 20 year band history will confirm that Jerome Reuter is always good for a surprise. No one would dispute that folk noir – this darker stream within the singer-songwriter tradition, typically made of acoustic guitars coupled with melancholic vocals – is his bread and butter and creative starting point. However, one will regularly find dark and atmospheric ambient tracks on his albums – fragments reminiscent of movie scores and collages documenting ROME’s roots within the post-industrial sub-culture.
On many occasions, Reuter has confidently crossed genre borders into the fields of post-punk or dark electro-pop, letting cold and noisy wave elements take over the warmer and clear acoustics and allowing martial samples, programmed beats and dancy analog synths to take center stage.
„Terres de Sang“ is a collection of songs and instrumentals mostly unreleased in these live, remixed, re-edited or otherwise altered versions. In addition to this, this collection includes the band’s typical collages often used as live intros or interludes. „Terres de Sang“ is a cornucopia filled with a wide variety of musical styles, themes and moods that have characterised ROME’s oeuvre for two decades. This does not result in an independent new album, but an exciting and entertaining kaleidoscope of Jerome Reuters’ seemingly inexhaustible creativity, and which speaks to the heart of any avid ROME collector. „Terres de Sang“ furthermore includes alternative live versions of popular ROME classics such as “Das Feuerordal”, “Blighter” and “Secret Germany”. At last, these long sought after rarities and nearly lost fragments in the band’s history have been assembled and can be enjoyed in their own right or as a complement to the existing albums.
