“Apples For Isaac” marks a monumental comeback for Echo & The Bunnymen—their first album of new songs in over a decade. After spending years performing their vast catalog of classics for audiences around the world, the Bunnymen have recorded an album that is as bold as it is vulnerable, perfectly capturing the essence of what makes the band so great.
On their previous release with BMG, “The Stars, The Oceans & The Moon” (2018), they once again turned to material from their formative years—and right from the opener “Take Me By The Hand,” it’s clear that the band has lost none of the urgency of their early work.
Fitting for a song about the ghosts of the past, the lead single “Brussels Is Haunted” exemplifies the band’s proud legacy; its life-affirming chorus is absolutely worthy of one of the founding fathers of post-punk.
The late drummer Clem Burke can also be heard on all but one of the songs on “Apples for Isaac.” He tragically passed away during the album’s production, and the band dedicated the album to him as follows:
“The great, legendary Clem Burke—a longtime friend of Mac’s—played a pivotal role in the making of this album and passed away in a heartbreaking manner while it was being completed… we love you, Clem X.”
