The Icelandic synth-punk trio, Kælan Miklaand Bardi Johannsson teamed up to create an original score for Victor Sjöströmthe 1921 Swedish silent film, The Phantom Carriage. Watch the video for the album’s closing track and the title track in the article below and learn more.
The film was screened at Transylvania International Film Festival 2023, accompanied by a live performance of the score written especially for the location, at a sold out church. In light of the success of this first show, together Kælan Mikla and Bardi Johannsson have now launched The Phantom Carriage the original music on vinyl and will perform it live on other occasions.
Together, Bardi Johannsson and Kælan Mikla have created a unique voice that inhabits a world of folklore and fairy tales, magic and mysticism. Cinematic synth layers, ethereal vocals and programmed drums – these are the elements at the heart of the collaboration’s sound, drawing the listener deeper and deeper into their musical space. Crossing between classic thriller scores and gloomy darkwave synths, this is a charming new work.
