Description
It´s a beautiful album from Pam Risourie where Shoegaze meets Post Punk and Dream Pop – debut album from the 5 young guys from Paris. While the production alludes to their influences (My Bloody Valentine, Sonic Youth, etc), with a mastering credit to Slowdive’s Simon Scott, it would be remiss to file them under the convenient “darkgaze” category.
The record opens on a beautiful “You are the Sound,” which instantly sets the musical and lyrical tone for all that lies ahead. The turbulent “High on a Wire” feels reminiscent of Kid A-era Radiohead, whereas “A Star among the Candles” (on CD only) soars with heavy, unleashed passion, and the epic eight-minute “Weltschmerz” feels like an emotionally cleansing, transformative journey in and of itself. “Disappear for Me” finally ends this very promising first opus for this quintett with dreamy emotions that won’t let you without feelings.
