To mark the 40th anniversary of The Jesus And Mary Chain, ‘Glasgow Eyes’ was recorded at Mogwai’s Castle of Doom studio in Glasgow, where Jim and William continued the creative process that led to their last album, 2017’s ‘Damage and Joy’, which became their best charting album in over twenty years.
The result is a record that sees one of the UK’s most influential groups embark on a prolific second chapter, their maelstrom of melody, feedback and controlled chaos now even more clearly informed by their love of Suicide and Kraftwerk and a new appreciation of jazz’s less disciplined attitude.
“Glasgow Eyes” not only continues the story of The Jesus and Mary Chain, but also feels like a return to their roots. Since the sensational debut “Psychocandy” and the classic “Just Like Honey”, the Reid brothers have increasingly become outsiders who did uncompromisingly good things.
