Since the mid-1990s, Dernière Volonté, the project led by Geoffroy D., has created music at the crossroads of shadow and light, bringing together martial rhythms, electronics, French melancholy, and a voice that has become one of its defining signatures over the years. Initially rooted in industrial and dark ambient atmospheres, the project underwent a major shift with Les Blessures de l’ombre in 2003, followed by Devant le miroir in 2006: drums, synthesizers, and dark textures intertwined with more intimate melodies, giving rise to a singular form of twilight pop.
With CENDRE, Dernière Volonté now returns to this original substance. The album revisits the dense, nocturnal and melancholic atmospheres of its formative works, as though time had left behind a dust of memories, voices, and melodies. Yet this return is not a repetition: a new inspiration runs through these tracks, bringing the project’s past into dialogue with a renewed sensibility.
CENDRE is therefore an album about returning to one’s roots, but above all, an album of transformation. Music that looks back without seeking to return there, turning its own traces into something new.
